Well over 100
plates of food were served Saturday, July 12 in the Robinson
City Park when local Masons from Newton, Flat Rock, Oblong, Palestine, and
Robinson lodges hosted their old-fashioned BBQ.
This is the seventh consecutive year that Masons have hosted a benefit
meal, and this year these community volunteers conducted a car, truck, and bike
show as well, which added to the crowd.
rain on Saturday diminished the crowd, several classic car
and truck owners as well as some bikers competed in the first ever car show as
a part of the benefit event. Those who
earned accolades in the event are as follows.
First among motorcycle entries:
Don and Marie Andrews of Willow Hill for their 2005 1400cc Harley
Davidson Super Glide. First among truck
entries: Bobby Reed of Martinsville, for
his 1941 Ford, and first among car entries and also best overall winner: Steve
Tingley of Marshall for his 1969
Chevrolet Camaro 350 SS-RS. These
beauties, among others, attracted a crowd of onlookers and helped to generate
further interest in the benefit dinner.
Thanks also goes
to Widow's Son motorcycle club for also participating in
the festivities by selling snow cones and lemon shake-ups. In addition, Ginger
Robins, Usborne Book
dealer, had an excellent cash-and-carry book sale during the day-long event. There
was surely something for everyone.
