For 10 years, the annual Race for the Kids (a 5K and duathlon) has held on the first Saturday in May at the Hutsonville City Park. However, in 2018, in order to avoid spring flooding and enter a warmer season, we’re moving the competition to the first Saturday in June! Whether you are an avid athlete and want the challenge of 4 miles by foot and 20+ miles by bike, or you are interested only in a shorter 3.1-mile loop around town, we have a race for you. What a blessing so many athletes are to us as they support our work through their training, stamina, and determination. To learn more, or to register, click here.
Enjoy a morning of artistry! Whether you are a novice or a pro, we’ll provide an atmosphere for fun and creativity. Click here to register and to learn more of these great events!
Sportsman’s Day is a day for outdoor fun. Participants are asked for a donation, but we provide all the entertainment and lunch (at no additional cost)! Enjoy archery, slingshot, hatchet throwing, bow fishing, rifle marksmanship, and many other stations. Sam Parr State Park in Jasper County serves as our venue. We host this fun day in July each year.
Don’t miss our annual Chicken and Noodle Dinner at the Palestine Park during Labor Day Weekend. . .those are some good eats!! We’ll come to you (if you are sitting street side for the annual parade) to offer a cinnamon roll for breakfast, and then you can follow up with a good lunch at the park. Everything is homemade by houseparents and kids!
The Children’s Home joins in the fun of the Oblong Fall Follies on the last Saturday of the month of October. It is a brisk morning run/walk for all of the participants, but they come out in droves to enjoy the early 8:00 a.m. start. It is a great start to a great day in Oblong. We are proud to be a part!
